Wet trimming or dry trimming?
Before the flowers get the chance to dry, go ahead and remove all the fan leaves, smaller leaves, and then cut the buds individually. This way, it becomes easy to obtain fresh frozen live resin plant material.
If you are one of those who doesn’t want to spend time cutting each bud individually, then opt for dry trimming. This way, you only have to remove fan leaves and let the entire plant hang for 10 to 14 days. Once the buds are completely dry, remove the sugar leaves.
But while dry trimming, it is best to have a tray or sifting screen below to catch the fallen trichomes.
Hand Vs. machine trimming
Hand trimming can prove the best option to really clean up the flower to perfection. But, hand trimming can prove impractical in commercial operations.
It is possible to trim large quantities of buds in a short time using the machine. But here, the buds may require a second clean-up.
How long will it take for buds to dry?
Whether you dry trim or wet trim, you will need to give around 14 days for the buds to air out.
Smaller buds are cured after ten days, but it doesn’t hurt to give them extra days. Keep the temperature of the drying room close to 15 degrees Celsius with humidity close to 50%.
Things to look for
- Flowers should reduce in size with solid density
- The buds should be dry to touch and aromatic when handled
- The twigs should break easily
- Buds should be sticky but dry
